ProsperFleet FAQs

Why ProsperFleet?

How is ProsperFleet data a better alternative to other lists and databases about fleets?

Our ProsperFleet database was originally built to supply a small number of our marketing analytics clients with fleet data. Before using our data, they were using data they purchased from inexpensive sources easy to find on Google. They had several problems with other databases of companies with fleets:

  • The data was not in condition to their standards. They had to do a lot of work to make it ready for sales and marketing use. And actually, they wound up hiring us to clean all that data! We had to standardize it, format it, deduplicate it, perform address updates on it. After all of that, the inexpensive sources cost more.
  • Everyone was calling the same companies and contacts. Many lists use the FMCSA trucking company data. Those contacts were buried under avalanches of phone calls and emails from competitors. Our customers got “net new” accounts and contacts from us that weren’t contacted as often.
  • The vast majority of fleets are very small, less than 5 vehicles. They are owner-operator trucking companies with one tractor or truck, or small companies with a handful of vehicles. If you want to target the small fleet market, especially for trucking, there are many lists to reach them. Our focus has been on fleets with minimum 5+ vehicles and up to the largest fleets.
  • If you need to reach companies with sedans, SUVs, pickups and vans, most lists and databases about fleets do not include these vehicles. They are focused on medium and heavy duty trucks and the FMCSA data. Our database has the Class 1-3 light duty vehicles like sedans, SUVs, pickups and vans that are commonly used by the trades, field service, field sales reps and executives as “company cars.”
  • Our roots in advanced analytics and strategic consulting for marketing and sales is a powerful combination with fleet market intelligence. We can help you grow your sales to fleets.

I have ZoomInfo, Seamless.ai, Lusha. Why would I also need ProsperFleet?

Rarely do the popular prospecting sources have fleet and vehicle data. Employee and revenue figures are often a poor proxy for the number of vehicles a business has.

When you sell to fleets, your marketing and sales is more effective and profitable when you have info about the vehicles. This is particularly true if your product and service is for only certain types of vehicles. And if your ideal customer has more than a few vehicles.

Sometimes sales teams will prospect to companies that they believe have vehicles, but they don’t have advance knowledge of vehicle type and fleet size. This can waste your time (and thus money and opportunity cost) in a few ways:

  • You call a lot of companies with only one vehicle because that’s the majority of companies in many industries. But often, our clients want to reach fleets of 5+ or 10+ vehicles. Adding fleet and vehicle info to your accounts will help keep your sales and marketing resources focused on prospects with a potential bigger return for the same time.
  • If you need to reach companies with certain vehicles like pickup trucks and vans, or box trucks like city delivery trucks, or passenger cars, getting the vehicle data is a time-saving investment, rather than targeting companies by industry and guessing.

If you’re happy with the company firmographics and contact info that you get from other sources, we can add information about fleets and vehicles to your account and lead records.

Often, leads acquired at events and online might not meet your ideal customer profile. Appending your lead data with fleet and vehicle info helps to ensure your marketing and sales resources are targeting your ICP.

Accuracy & Reliability

How current is your data?

Company records are reviewed through phone calls on a rotating basis. About a million calls are placed every month. Many records have been reviewed within the past 30-90 days, with most of the remainder within the past 6 months. Company records include a “Verified On” date field so you can see when the record was last reviewed.

Business closure and bankruptcy checks are run monthly. This is important to do regularly, due to the cyclical nature of the trucking and transportation industry.

CASS (Coding Accuracy Support System) updates are run monthly. This tests street/mailing addresses for consistency with U.S. Postal Service delivery.

Emails are run through a verification service. We recommend that you work with us to re-verify emails immediately before email campaigns. Due to job changes, emails can age quickly and this can increase your bounce rate and affect deliverability of your emails.

What is your guarantee for accuracy of data?

We offer a 90% guarantee, so for example if 10% or more of emails return hard bounces, we would replace those records.

If you are able to flag outdated data and send it to us, it would be very much appreciated so we can update our database.

Sample Data

Can I have a sample that fits my filters and criteria?

We can give you a standard sample of about 50 records, so you can see:

  • Which fields you will receive with company, fleet and contact information
  • How the data is formatted

When you purchase data, you can be assured that the file you receive will look the same. At that time, the data will be custom selected to fit the criteria you set for filters like geography, industries, fleet size, company variables, and contact job titles.

Here are the fields for data we would deliver to you:

  • Valgen ID (unique ID to allow for deduplication matching in future orders)
  • Verified On Date
  • Company Name
  • Company Street
  • Company City
  • Company State
  • Company ZIP
  • Company Phone
  • Website
  • Location Type (Headquarters, Branch, Independent)

Can I have a sample to see how well the data performs during sales calls and email campaigns, before ordering?

We can give you a standard sample of about 50 records, so you can see:

  • Which fields you will receive with company, fleet and contact information
  • How the data is formatted

In addition, we’d like to address performance of list data versus marketing and sales performance. Lists are only a small part of successful marketing and sales. A list should have accurate and reliable data. Your list should fit your ideal customer profile as much as possible, which is dependent on having a clear idea of who your customer is. Though it’s rare to find a data source that has all variables 100%, your list provider should work with you to fit the data as much as possible – by geography, industry, company size, fleet size and vehicle type, with relevant job title contacts.

After you receive the list with accurate and reliable data that closely fits your ideal customer profile, performance depends on many factors in your sales and marketing process. Lists cannot compensate for not having a deep understanding of a market, for lacking product-market fit, or for not pairing an effective marketing or sales message with the right point in a funnel or customer journey.

In addition, performance measurement is important with lists. If you bought list after list, and felt disappointed with the results, it’s probably not the whole list that’s a problem. People rarely ask, what part of the list DID work? If a list produced a 1% response rate, you might find that some industries produced 2% while others produced .5%. So your analysis could identify segments of the list that out-performed the average.

Then work with your list provider to, in the next order, focus on the industries that produced a higher response rate.

Successful Demand Generation

Data Delivery

How is the data delivered?

We work with you to set filters to tailor the data for your needs. Once you’re ready to place an order, we have a form where you can choose filters to select data that fits your ideal customer. Filters commonly requested include:

  • Geography
  • Industries
  • Fleet size
  • Vehicle type
  • Job titles

Then we query our database and send the data to you in Excel or csv format. If you want “net new” records – meaning you want us to send only data that you don’t already own – then we would ask you to send your prospect and customer data to us, and we will use that file to ensure that we identify only company and/or contact records that are new to you. This data would also be delivered in Excel or csv format.

If you have Salesforce, we can deliver your data direct into Salesforce.

We can turn around requests in a few days or faster, depending on complexity of your filters and the condition of any data that you send to us for matching.

Can I choose my own data online or through an app?

We’re working on this! We are developing an online system where you can choose your own data. It will be released soon.

Right now, we work with you to set filters to tailor the data for your needs. We have a form where you can see all the filters available to you – we can drill down into detail with:

  • Geography
  • Industries
  • Fleet size
  • Vehicle type
  • Job titles

Then we query our database and send the data to you in Excel or csv format. If you have Salesforce, we can deliver your data direct into Salesforce.

We can turn around requests in a few days or faster, depending on complexity of your filters.

Is DMV registration data available from all states?

ProsperFleet data is multi-sourced, which means the company, fleet and contact records are a compilation of data from many sources. One source is Secretary of State or state Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) registration data.

DMV registration data is currently available from 40 states. For these states, we have actual business vehicle registrations*.

Ten states do not allow sharing of DMV registration data. These states include:

  • Arizona
  • Colorado
  • Kansas
  • Nebraska
  • New Hampshire
  • New York
  • Pennsylvania
  • South Dakota
  • Virginia
  • Washington

For these ten restricted states, fleet and vehicle data must be estimated or inferred with statistical models, or self-reported.

* Note: This does not guarantee that vehicles registered at a state’s DMV are kept in that state. For most small and medium businesses, fleets are simple. A plumber in Illinois who registered 8 vehicles for his business at the Illinois Secretary of State likely keeps all 8 vehicles in Illinois. For very large fleets, the structure can get complicated, especially when the business has a headquarters in one state and many locations in different states across the country. All vehicles nationwide could possibly be registered at the HQ location. If the HQ is in one of the ten restricted states, it’s more difficult to get information about the fleet and vehicles. Many large fleets use external fleet management companies (FMCs) to run their fleet operations, and the vehicles might be registered under the FMC company’s name and addresses. In summary, there are a lot of factors outside any data provider’s control, that affect an accurate count of vehicles and where they are located.

Does your data include only vehicles owned by businesses? No personal vehicles?

Our data includes only vehicles registered to businesses. All vehicles in our database are owned by a business.

It is possible, though, that business vehicles are parked/registered at home addresses. This can happen for vehicles driven by business owners, executives, truck owner-operators, field sales reps, and other employees who often keep the vehicles at home.

Also some small businesses are located at residential addresses. But their business vehicles are registered to the business.

What is GVWR 1-8 and Class 1-8? Do you have all of these in the ProsperFleet database?

Yes, we have all GVWR 1-8, also known as Class 1-8, vehicles in our data.

Class 1 8 Light Medium Heavy Duty

Does ProsperFleet have data about sedans?

Yes, we do have data about sedans. While we don’t have counts of sedans only, the sedan data is included in the GVWR Class 1 count of vehicles.

Does ProsperFleet have data about pickup trucks and vans?

Yes, we do have data about pickup trucks and vans. While we don’t have counts of these vehicles only, they are included in the GVWR Class 1-3 counts of vehicles.

Some fleet databases have hundreds of fields about the vehicles. Do you have all that information?

Whether you need hundreds of data points about a prospect depends on your business and what you are selling. The majority of businesses selling to fleets do not use or want that much data and detail.

Below is the list of data fields that we provide most often to our clients. Indeed, many marketing and sales managers we work with will give fewer fields than this to their SDRs and BDRs, for example, because they feel there is too much information and they want to help sales reps stay focused. For these reasons, we believe in delivering the most important data that’s requested most often by our customers. For the rare cases where more information is needed, we do have access to many more data fields.

Contact Data

What contact information can I get?

Once you’re ready to purchase data, we will work with you to identify the job titles that respond best to your marketing and sales. Our database focuses on the job titles important to people who sell to fleets:

  • Owners and presidents of small businesses
  • Fleet directors and fleet managers
  • Fleet vehicle maintenance
  • Transportation
  • Safety and EH&S
  • DOT compliance
  • Operations
  • General managers
  • Logistics
  • Warehouse
  • Driver recruiting
  • Risk management
  • Asset management
  • Field service
  • Public works
  • City managers

We focus on owners, executives, directors and managers.

As you can imagine, for more general titles such as “operations” and “maintenance” there can be a lot irrelevant job titles. We have extensive exclude lists tailored to the needs of people who need to reach influencers and decision-makers relevant for fleets.

Can ProsperFleet help us get valid emails?

Yes. Emails are run through a verification service. We recommend that you work with us to re-verify emails immediately before email campaigns. Due to job changes, emails can age quickly and this can increase your bounce rate and affect deliverability of your emails.

A note about personal email domains like gmail, hotmail, yahoo:  Sometimes, especially with smaller businesses, these emails are truly being used and not just given out as a way to void spam. Owner-operators and small business may be more likely to use these email services, especially if they don’t have a website.

In addition, if you run advertising on LinkedIn, keep in mind that people often use personal emails for their LinkedIn profiles. Because over time as they change jobs, their employer emails will change. LinkedIn has a matched list feature where you can upload lists of emails. We find the email match rate there is higher when you do not exclude personal emails from lists. So when reaching targeted audiences on LinkedIn, personal emails can be an advantage.

If you want only emails associated with a company website domain, you can specify that when you order data, though please note this will significantly reduce the counts of contact data available.
